Resting Girl by François Boucher was created in 1752 and is in Alte Pinakothek, Munich. The original size of the work is 59 x 73 cm and is made of oil on canvas.
About the Work
A young girl lies stark naked on a chaise longue; a brazier on the floor provides warmth. Are we looking at a model of Boucher’s—someone whom King Louis XV went on to make his mistress in 1753? This has long been suspected, though it cannot be proven. Depictions such as this were prized by collectors and found their way into private art cabinets. Another version, dated 1751, is held by the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud in Cologne.
